Laura Bakosh, Ph.D.Co-Founder, Inner Explorer
Laura's mindfulness practice began in 1993, as a way to manage long hours, stress and travel, while a General Manager at GE Healthcare. A few years later, she implemented mindfulness within her team. Record sales volume, reduced turnover and boosted morale were all linked to the mindfulness training. The key challenge was sustaining a daily practice. After 25 years in management and sales, Laura merged her business acumen with her commitment to personal awareness and co-founded Inner Explorer with Janice Houlihan. They inspires PK-12 students to develop a daily mindful practice through an internet-enabled, audio guided, 5-10-minute program in schools. After only 5 years 130,000 students are using Inner Explorer every day to improve their wellbeing and academic success. The Inner Explorer team is working to foster One Million Mindful Children (#1MMC), leading to a more compassionate world. In addition to a BS from Boston College and both Masters and PhD from Sofia University, she was trained as a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor through the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts. An author and speaker on mindfulness and learning, Laura believes that mindfulness is the most important social justice initiative of our time. Her husband and son share in her passion and yet wish mindfulness would go to the beach or the golf course more often. That is her intent in 2017!
