Laney WhitcanackCEO, Coro Northern California
Laney is the CEO of Coro Northern California. A non-partisan non-profit, Coro believes a thriving democracy requires people with the skills, knowledge and networks to work across differences. Since 1942, Coro's experiential leadership training programs have convened thousands of leaders across government, non-profits, politics, business and labor to learn and practice collaborative leadership.
Prior to her appointment as Coro CEO in 2016, Laney was a founder and executive in the tech sector. Most recently, she served as Chief Community Officer and the Executive Vice President/General Manager of Content Marketing at Federated Media. She joined Federated through the acquisition of her software company, BigTent. Since 2006, BigTent has helped millions of community members and thousands of groups connect and organize.
A social entrepreneur, Laney also founded the The Princess Project, which engages thousands of girls and women across California each year in volunteer opportunities. Laney received her B.A. from UCLA, her MBA from the Simmons School of Management, and her Ed.M from Harvard University, focused on Adult Leadership Development. A published author and speaker on collaborative leadership, community engagement and social entrepreneurship, she is a recipient of the Jefferson Award for Public Service.
