Returning Speakers include...

Jack Kornfield, Roshi Joan Halifax, Congressman Tim Ryan, Meng Tan, Premal Shah, Eric Schiermeyer, Rich Fernandez, Jon Kabat-Zinn, and others ... (see speaker bios here)

New Speakers include...

Mindfulness and the Brain: Due to the interest in the brain, neuroscience, and mindfulness, we are happy to include this year Dr. Daniel Siegel, who received his medical degree from Harvard University and is co-director of UCLA's Mindful Awareness Research Center, and author of "The Mindful Therapist," among other books. He has been one of the leaders in connecting mindfulness to wellness and better brain function.

Women, Wisdom, and Technology. Another feedback has been to include more women from tech, and we are thrilled to have this year, Padmasree Warrior, Chief Technology officer at Cisco Systems, a multinational corporation with over 70,000 employees that designs and sells consumer electronics, networking, voice, and communications technology and services. Padmasree is also a meditation practitioner, a poet, and an artist.

Social Media and Compassion: Can social networks such as Facebook be used to support understanding and compassion? This is the effort of Arturo Bejar, an engineer at Facebook focused on designing systems that help people be more mindful of each other. He is formerly "Chief Paranoid" at Yahoo, and will discuss his efforts to make Facebook a tool for enhancing understanding, compassion, and mindfulness in its over 600 million users worldwide.

Games and Well-Being: Jane McGonigal, PhD is a world-renowned designer of alternate reality games — or, games that are designed to improve real lives and solve real problems.

Her identical twin sister, Kelly McGonical, PhD, is a health psychologist at Stanford University and a leading expert on the mind-body relationship. She teaches for the School of Medicine’s Health Improvement Program and is a senior teacher/consultant for the Stanford Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education. Together we will discuss, mindfulness, health, and gaming.

The Schedule

The schedule is still in development and many more speakers will be announced in coming months... it will once again be an extraordinary mix of people from tech and wisdom communities. We also know that much of the reason people attend is to meet and connect with others, and we plan to provide ample opportunity to do so.

2012 Theme

The emerging theme this year is Connection and Engagement. The question is less if we will use modern technologies, but how they can help us better engage with ourselves and others.
