Subjects Explored at Wisdom 2.0 Conference
1) Managing the Stream: Can We Live Consciously in a Constantly Connected World? (Panel Discussion)
The information age has brought enormous opportunity, but also some significant challenges. One of these is learning to manage and live mindfully amidst the enormous amount of information that comes our way via emails, tweets, updates on Facebook and Buzz, and other sources.
This session will explore:
Is there a way to live mindfully amidst an increasingly connected life?
Can we live with a presence that is use and engages all the great communication technologies of our time, but also does not become consumed with them?
If our attention is the most value thing we have, what are ways we can manage and harness that attention most effectively?
2) Mindfulness and the Brain: What Science Tells Us. Presentation by Philippe Goldin, Neuroscientist. Presentation then Q&A with the audience.
3) Practice in Modern Times: Living with Awareness and Wisdom in the Age of Gadgets (Panel Discussion)
In prior times, one’s “practice” was often limited to the confines of a church, temple, meditation or yoga center. Today many people are working to extend their practice, to extend the living of awareness, wisdom, and compassion, into their daily technology-rich lives.
This session will explore:
What does it mean to “practice,” to bring awareness, wisdom, and compassion, to our busy connected lives?
How might we engage with technology wisely?
Is there a way to support a wise use of technology in our society?
4) Google and Personal Growth. Interview with Meng Tan, Head of Personal Growth at Google. Interview then Q&A with the audience.
5) Producing Attention, Consuming Awareness. Presentation by Greg Pass, VP of Engineering at Twitter. Presentation then Q&A with the audience.
6) Wisdom Teachings in the Internet Age: Opportunities and Challenges
The technologies of our age have both their capabilities, and their limitations. Increasingly people are exploring using them to support universal qualities. This session explore the opportunities and possible limitations of using new media to support positive qualities.
This session will explore:
What are people learning in their effort to use new technology to promote positive lifestyles?
What are the opportunities and limitations of these tools?
What might it look like if new technology was better used to increase the well-being of people in the world?
7) Managing and Effectively Using Social Media (Panel Discussion)
Social media has provided tremendous opportunities to everyone from large and looking to engage with their customers to individuals wanting to connect with others along shared interests. The challenge is knowing how to both manage, and effectively use, social media so that it becomes a positive tool in our lives?
This session will explore:
What are the secrets to effectively using social media?
What works and what does not?
How do you manage an active social media life so that you use it effectively rather than feel drowned by it?
8) Conscious Business: Supporting Staff to Live Mindfully, Meaningfully, and Effectively
Americans spend most of their lives at work. Work is often a place of enormous stress for many people, as technology has increased the speed and pace of our work environments.
This session will explore:
What does it mean to transform the work environment to be a place of ease and focus?
What are ways mindfulness, and a sense of being connected to a deeper purpose, can be encouraged in the work environment?
What is the new business of the future that is both attentive to the external demands, including the need for profit, and that also serves the internal well-being of both staff and customers?
